GESUALDO
Vocice and double quartet
THE MADRIGAL, under a formal point of view, represents one of
the archetypal forms of Italian vocal music, and as such it has
contributed to render Italy a reference place for both classic
and popular music.
THE MADRIGALS BY GESUALDO DA VENOSA (1560-1613) - in the present
project - have been at times re-interpreted, at times used merely
as inspiration, at times reproduced faithfully, always in a
fashion that is close to the sensibility of the musicians
involved in the project.
GESUALDO DA VENOSA was one of the most intense and eccentric
personalities immediately after Italian Renaissance. He was at
the crossroads between modal and tonal conceptions of Western
Music. As such, his compositions provide fertile grounds for a
modern re-interpretation in the idioms of jazz and contemporary
music.
TWO QUARTETS are involved in this project: a jazz quartet
(saxophone, French horn, bass, drums), and a chamber quartet
(flute, violin, viola, cello). A female voice encircles the two
quartets developing the poetics of the madrigals. The fusion of a
chamber orchestra and of a jazz group is the result of the desire
to experiment with different music genres. By bringing them
together and mixing their styles, Tino Tracanna has been able to
recreate the musical world in which he lives, where classical and
contemporary music have equal importance.
THE JAZZ QUARTET is composed by the leader, Tino Tracanna, and
other three musicians of great experience and fame: Francesco
Petreni (drums), Paolino Dalla Porta (double bass) and Francesco
Pontiggia (French horn).
THE CHAMBER QUARTET is the "Modern Ensemble", renowned
for its musicians and for its original repertoire that mixes
composition and improvisation: Riccardo Parrucci (flute), Gloria
Merani (violin), Alessandro Franconi (viola) and Filippo
Burchietti (cello).
THE VOICE is that of Maria Pia de Vito, one the most important
and versatile Italian singers, whose fame abroad has constantly
grown over the last years.
THE ARRANGEMENTS of the music by Gesualdo are by Corrado Guarino,
that has shared several other interesting projects with Tino
Tracanna.
