CHASIN' THE TRANEDedicated to John Coltrane Ensemble Mobile
Music by John Coltrane THE REPERTOIRE proposed by the Ensemble Mobile for the 30th anniversary of J.Coltrane's death is formed by music of Coltrane himself and music written for this occasion by C.Guarino. The choice of the pieces of the famous saxophonist covers a long period, that touches crucial moments of his artistic production. The purpose doesn't include the re-proposition of the different ensembles in orchestral version, but it is concentrated on the understanding of the deep musical structures, which are re-elaborated. If this can seem obvious for the arrangements of Coltrane's music, it is also true for the three original compositions, which are constructed in the Coltranian manner as well. In fact "Steps" and "Quiet Steps" rise from "Giant Steps" and "There is never any end" rises from "Iris". You can find here typical aspects of Guarino's style, inspired by polytonal and polyrhythmic situations, even typical of a certain contemporary stream (Ligeti above all).
